This year marks Shrewsbury Youth for Christ’s 15th Anniversary and we are so thankful to God for his faithfulness to us over those years. To celebrate this milestone and to help us tell the story of Shrewsbury Youth for Christ we are planning a fundraising challenge this May.
Over the course of three days we are planning to walk from Welshpool to Shrewsbury; a journey of approximately 50 miles. We are inviting you to join us for some or all of this walk. Perhaps you would like to join us for the full three days? Or maybe a day or two? Perhaps you’d love to be involved but can only manage 2 miles – there’s an option for you too!
Shrewsbury Miles from Home is taking place from Friday 8th – Sunday 10th May. The event will end with a celebration at Christ Church Bayston Hill which you are all invited to, walker or non-walker! The walk will be led by our very own Becci Amos and our good friend Michael Carding, both of whom are experienced guides.
Day 1 – Welshpool to Bishop’s Castle
Approximately 18 miles covering the Offa’s Dyke and Kerry Ridgeway.
Day 2 – Bishop’s Castle to Church Stretton
Approximately 16 miles ascending the Long Mynd from the South by the Jack Mytton Way and down into Church Stretton via Ashes Hollow.
Day 3 – Church Stretton to Bayston Hill
Approximately 16 miles over Caer Caradoc and The Lawley, picking up the final group of walkers at Lyth Hill.
Short Route – Sunday afternoon
If you’d like to join us for the last leg of the walk, you are welcome to join us on Lyth Hill for the final 2 miles into Bayston Hill for our celebration event. Whether you’d like to walk all of the route or some of it, we’d love to hear from you. We’ll be having overnight stops on Friday and Saturday, or you can simply meet us using public transport to each location.
You are welcome to raise sponsorship for this event (details coming soon). There will be a small cost for taking part in the two and three day event to help cover the costs of accommodation and food. Entry costs will include a Miles From Home t-shirt to wear over the weekend. Accommodation will be a combination of bunkhouse / church floor. Or you would be welcome to bring a tent.
